Oxford Manor Hospital ReceptionBefore Your Operation Day:

We aim to make your stay for surgery as comfortable and stress free as possible. Lesley will contact you with an admission time and finalise any last minute arrangements and send any documentation to you either by post or e mail. Prior to your day of surgery we will have organised a short questionnaire for you to complete, detailing your medical history, medication, any allergies, etc. This can be printed and filled in before you come, cutting down time on the day.

Your Operation Day:

PRE OP: After arriving in reception you will be guided to the Day Surgery Unit, where the nursing staff will check through your documentation. You will be seen by Mr Sadler and Dr Stoneham before your surgery. Mr Sadler will again go through your procedure and post-operative care with you, arrange consent and mark the planned side for your operation. Dr Stoneham will then go through the anaesthetic procedure with you.

POST OP: After your operation you will remain in the Day Surgery Unit for about 30 minutes, have a cup of tea and some sandwiches, be given all your medication and post-operative instructions about wound care, removing stitches, contact numbers, etc. The total length of time is hospital for most patients is about 2-3 hours.

  • The surgeon spotted a feature of my anatomy that is apparently very rare and could affect recovery. Thanks to his extensive experience and the use of a local anaesthetic he was able to tell me at the time what he'd found and what I should do about it to ensure a full recovery. More important, the procedure is superbly designed to maximize the effectiveness of the intervention and minimize the impact on patients - very convenient to be a day patient and have the operation done under local anaesthetic
